“Dear” Windows Vista

Sometimes newspaper headlines give me any joy. For example, last Sunday.

“Windows 7″ will make forget Vista.

Hopefully!

At home we have several computers, in fact there are more computers than people, the guilty is my son the “computer-son”. Well, the only which works with Vista is that I’m using right now. Other work with XP or Linux.

My relationship with Vista has had ups and downs, more downs than ups. Every day I switch on the computer and while it is awaking I have enough time for leaving the bag in the bedroom, changing shoes, wearing comfortable clothes and when I come back usually I find the users screen waiting for me. I type my password, something stupid because everyone knows it is, and Vista starts to awaken.

While I’m going to make beds, pick up dirty clothes, I go to the washing machine, I separate clothes the white ones and colour ones (a practice highly recommended), I put the detergent and I get it on. Normally when the washer begins working, it does not work with Windows Vista, I get back to look at the screen. If it’s Monday, which means there more dirty clothes to wash, or Thursday when I change the sheets, usually Vista has already been raised, at least apparently because, although it is open the desktop that does not mean it is ready to work, always in the bottom of the screen there is a blinking icon. Almost always that means the famous “windows updates”. Updates which incidentally are not such because, when days before I have installed Photoshop CS4 I discovered that my lovely Windows Vista is a thousand years without updating.

then, what were these updates that frequently restarted with computer with little warning? I wondered

Buff! This is a Vista matter – was my son’s response.

Well, now I know what they are, for example, every time I open Word, “vista” tells me: “this is not an original copy”. In fact, my office copy is not a pirate copy, only by chance, off course.

When I installed Photoshop CS4 I found a little problem added, I needed more RAM.

SON!

Swift and fast my son came to my rescue and screwdriver in hand, my soon installed 4 fantastics gigabytes RAM, but …. My life is full of “buts”, Vista only lets me to use 3.5. Are still many, I know, but I have four no 3.5. When you are trying to do an overview with 15 or 20 photos, 5 MB size everyone, that’s would be a great difference.

But, nothing compares to those sublime moments when, thanks to Telefonica, my ADSL falls, which happens too often, then my dear “vista” devotes all its efforts to seek a solution ONLINE to the little problem to be OFFLINE.

Dear Vista, honestly, I do not believe missing you too much, even perhaps I convince my son to move to Linux, but probably he would tell me:

Mum, I need to have a Vista at home if only to criticize it.
