The old man

Last days a lot off people talk about the great history’s discourses. Today the newspaper “La Vanguardia” publish full text off discourse Barck Obama pronounces last Tuesday in Chicago and also make some references to other greats discourses like the famous “I have a dream” or “Ich bin ein berliner”. Great discourses off course, but I miss one. The discourse that an old man 84 years old pronounced at the United Nations headquarters on Sunday 24th October 1971 that begun with these words “I’m Catalan”
Probably most off you don’t know it, but I can assure you then here, where I live, this words pronounced by that old man touched in the past and touche today enough.
When the old man pronounced those words here Franco was enough in front Spanish government. The old man has sworn in he never come back his native country, Catalonia, while Franco was alive. He never could come back, both are old but, he was the oldest.
No, today I don’t include the discourse, it’s very easy to find it in Youtube but, usually translated on Catalan. Catalonia is small and Catalan people are not many. I preferred to offer you the most universal discourse the music.
It is the original sound, only audio. You can listen Pau Casals’s voice introducing the musical piece that he played.

In fact, during a lot of year he was the best violoncello player, respected and admired around the world. But that day when he played at he United Nations Assembly his hands were not so agile than before, in that moment he was only an old man.
Pau Casals composed the United Nations hymn.

See you
