All people know, but if you don’t know it I explain you, in Spain a long time ago the Muslim army went beyond Cordoba and Granada. They also were in Barcelona, but they were expelled from there at least two times, as far as I know.
In a certain moment between those comings and goings a man called Sunario, who I didn’t know up to now, founded the convent of “Sant Pere de les Puelles” Saint Peter of maidens.
On 985 Muslim army invaded Barcelona again and according to popular legend the maidens, frightened of soldiers fury, decided to cool the virile “ardours” radically. Their solution was a bit “brute”. They cut their noses themselves.
Invader, and probably everyone, didn’t like that idea. The Muslim soldiers, as brutes as the maidens, murdered them. As usual the convent was destroyed and rebuilt again by Count Borrell. But regrettably the convent was near the city walls and on 1697 was destroyed again.
Halfway through XIX century the convent’s cloister was a prison, later the church change to parish church.
On 1909 and 1936 the church and the convent were a target for revolutionaries again and were burned.
Here you can see how looked it in the beginning of XX Century.
See you.
