Recently was Queen Sofia birthday. Right now my brother has already opened G-mail and is typing an e-mail that more or less will say …. As well as “Maruja”, monarchical…. (”maruja” is a woman’s name and also a popular way to refer the housewife, according how and who pronounce this word that may be fun, nice but also pejorative and stupid)
Years ago once I happened to meet with the King, Yes with the King Juan Carlos. He was in my village’s bar eating one splendorous “butifarra ambseques” (this a catalan popular food: a tipyc pork sausage with white beans) . The last thing I thought in that moment was to pounce on him looking for one autograph or to improvise a forelock touching (besamanos) and I believe the men seated on the next table probably don’t agree this idea.
Here in Spain usually say that our King is “campechano” (something like comradely or cheerful more or less). The Queen is different she is more serious. As a results her birthday, lasts days on TV I listened a lot of times “Our Queen is a very normal woman”.
It is possible but don’t exaggerate. If she was absolutely “normal” Where would be the joke to be queen?.
In fact this a journalist’s invention. They say that she is normal because she talks with the people, I do that every day and never I’ve appeared on “Hello”. She is normal because plays with her grandchildren, I cannot do that because I’m not grandmother enough. She is normal because she likes taking photographs to their grandchildren herself. Oh! what a prodigy!
A lot of times my mother-in-law complains how difficult is taking a photograph with all her grandchildren together. Probably Queen Sofia has the same problem or worse. For that reason on Christma’s 2005 she sat in front the computer and played with photoshop. The result was a montage that turned around world 30 or 40 times. To be exactly I don’t know if the rest world could see the photo, but here it was commented a lot. Photoshop needs practice and the Queen was a rookie, a Royal rookie of course but rookie at the end. For that reason I think that we can forgive her.
But the photo professional are another thing. Sometimes must remember them elementary concepts like: the models have only two arms or that the distance between the navel and foot fingers cannot be three times the distance between the same navel and the crown of the head.
